This shocking case is related to the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh. Here the money offered to God in the temple is stuck due to legal rules. The money donated in the temple is not being deposited in the bank. This amount is also huge. The total amount deposited by the temple in the bank has gone up to Rs 26.86 crore. This money was donated by the devotees to the temple.

Why is the money stuck?

Let us tell you that the registration of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, the trust that manages the temple, has been suspended for the last three years. The registration suspension is under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), which bars foreign currency donated to the temple from being deposited in banks. According to media reports, now the temple has requested the government for help in this matter.

The temple trust gave complete information yet the government handed over the notice to the temple

Although the temple trust sought help from the government, instead of a solution, the government issued a notice to the temple. The temple trust deposits the donated amount in the State Bank of India (SBI) but the SBI has now refused to deposit the money as the trust’s registration has been suspended. Although the temple trust has also sent the complete details of the donations received from abroad to the government. According to information sent to the government, the temple has received donations of US$115 million, Malaysian ringgit 59.3 million and Singapore dollar 40.6 million. Apart from this, the temple has also received a lot of donations in currencies from other countries.

Why did SBI refuse?

Due to changes in FCRA Act 2020, any NGO will have to open an account with SBI to deposit the money received from abroad. Due to not getting any information about the donors of the temple, SBI has flatly refused to deposit this money. The registration of the temple under the Foreign Contribution Act is suspended for the last three years. A fine has also been imposed on the temple in this case.
