Britain allocates 16 million pounds to overcome the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP

The British government announced the allocation of an additional 16 million pounds of humanitarian aid to Ukraine to overcome the consequences of flooding caused by the destruction of the Kakhovskaya Dam.

This was announced by the British government in a statement on Saturday, June 10, “European Truth” writes.

The additional funds are in addition to the existing £220m commitment announced last year.

According to the British government, this aid is in recognition of the growing needs across Ukraine, including in the areas affected by the collapse of the Nova Kakhovka dam.

Funding will be aimed at supporting humanitarian organizations working in affected areas in the south of Kherson region with equipment, housing and basic necessities, as well as in areas affected by hostilities and in displaced communities.

This funding will also help respond to the ongoing effects of flooding, including water-borne infectious diseases, loss of livelihoods and risks from landmines.

The Red Cross will receive £10m, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs £5m and the International Organization for Migration £1m.

British Foreign Minister James Cleverley said the flooding had an “unspeakable impact” on more than 32,000 people living in Kherson, as well as “thousands of people in the surrounding areas.”

Britain is also providing a package of lifeboats, water filters and water pumps to help Ukraine’s state emergency services deal with the aftermath of the flooding. It is expected that the equipment will start arriving in Ukraine next week.

The day before, Belgium decided transfer 3.5 million euros to Ukraine humanitarian aid due to the undermining of Kakhovskaya HPP.

After Russia blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP dam on Tuesday night, humanitarian aid was provided by a number of European Union countries and the United States.
