REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates (UAE) predicts that 1 Shawwal will fall on April 10 2024. So this year’s Ramadan will be 30 days long. Reporting from Gulf News on Friday (29/3/2024), the start of Ramadan this year was not the same in almost all countries. Some countries start on Monday 11 March 2024, and some countries on Tuesday 11 March 2024.
New countries starting fasting on Tuesday include Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Oman, Jordan, Libya and Morocco. So these countries will only start looking for the new month of Shawwal on Tuesday (April 9), or the 29th day of Ramadan.
Director of the International Astronomy Center (IAC), Engineer Mohammed Shawkat Odeh, explained that the crescent moon in the UAE cannot be seen on Monday (April 8), in countries that will try to see it because the moon sets before the sun and the conjunction occurs after sunset .
Therefore, these countries will complete the month of Ramadan for thirty days, so that the Ramadan fast will be completed to 30 days and Eid al-Fitr will fall on Wednesday (10/4/2024).
He added that the crescent moon could be visible on Tuesday (April 9) from certain areas. It is visible using telescopes from the eastern part of the world and South Africa, and with some difficulty using the naked eye from Central Asia and the central African continent. However, it is relatively easy to see from West Asia, North Africa, most of Europe and most of the American continent with the naked eye.
Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on April 10 in most countries as the sighting of the crescent moon is expected to be announced on that day. However, in India and Bangladesh, Eid may be celebrated on April 11 as the crescent moon sighting may be declared unconfirmed on Tuesday.
