Hanoi earthquake in My Duc district, people in the inner city felt the shaking

According to information from the Institute of Geophysics, the earthquake occurred at 8:55 a.m. this morning, at a depth of about 16 km, natural disaster risk level 0.

The earthquake location was in My Duc district, more than 40km from Hanoi center.

Mr. Luu Hai (24 years old, living in Dong Da district, Hanoi) said that at around 8:00 a.m. this morning, while sitting at work, he felt some objects in the house shaking.

“After feeling the shaking, I texted a few friends to ask what was going on to find out that an earthquake had occurred,” Mr. Hai shared.

More than 8 a.m. this morning, in some urban districts such as Cau Giay, Dong Da, Hai Ba Trung, Thanh Xuan, people clearly felt the shaking phenomenon occurring 2-3 times in a row.

According to Mr. Trieu, earthquakes of 5 to 6 degrees or more are medium earthquakes and pose a risk of natural disasters. From 6 degrees or higher is a major earthquake, the risk of natural disasters is very high.

The shaking phenomenon was recorded by a security camera at 8:05 a.m. this morning, March 25, in Dong Tam commune, My Duc district.

In fact, Vietnam once recorded a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in the Dien Bien basin (in 1935).

Mr. Trieu added that Hanoi is located in the Red River – Chay River fault zone, where earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.1-5.5 degrees have occurred.
