REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Public health practitioner, dr. Ngabila Salama advised the public to carry out independent influenza vaccination to prevent coughs and colds in the transition season after the Eid holiday. The flu vaccine can be obtained for ages six months and over and is especially important for vulnerable age groups.
“Toddlers, pregnant women, elderly people over the age of 50, the elderly and health workers are among those recommended to get the influenza vaccine,” said Ngabila when confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday (16/4/2024).
In addition, people with moderate to severe comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, stroke, heart disease, chronic kidney failure and autoimmune disease also need the influenza vaccine. Ngabila revealed that the price of influenza vaccination is around IDR 200 thousand.
The influenza vaccine is given once per year. The distance between administration and other vaccines is at least 14 days, except for meningitis vaccination which can be given all at once in one day.
“Vaccines can be obtained at clinics or hospitals that provide vaccination services,” said Ngabila, who practices at Tamansari Regional Hospital, West Jakarta.
Ngabila admitted that he had received an influenza vaccination. There are benefits to be felt.
“I give personal testimony, I have only been injected with the influenza vaccine once in my life, approximately one month ago,” he said.
After receiving the vaccination, he admitted that he never felt cough and cold or flu symptoms. Apart from that, the body also feels healthy and fit.
“I don’t feel the symptoms of cough, cold (common cold) feels like I’m going to have the flu until now,” said Ngabila.
