Heavy Equipment Damaged, Landfill Waste Overflowing

NEGARA, BALIPOST.com – Piles of rubbish at the Banjar Peh Final Disposal Site (TPA), Kaliakah Village, Negara District have recently left the area. The rubbish in the 2 hectare landfill has overflowed into the office yard and the waste water is seeping into the road.

This condition was made worse by the damage to two excavators used to level the rubbish. As a result, the pile of rubbish is getting higher and higher and the excavator operator does not dare to go up to level it. “Because it is already high, the area has been expanded,” said the Coordinator of the Peh Waste Landfill, Ketut Suardika, to journalists, Tuesday (16/4).

Trash is no longer piled up but expanded. Suardika added that the amount of waste entering the landfill per day reaches around 60 tonnes, with 28 tonnes coming from public facilities and 32 tonnes from the community.

Head of the Jembrana Environment and Hygiene Service (LHKP), Dewa Gede Ary Candra Wisnawa, said the damage to the excavator caused rubbish to overflow. However, he confirmed that improvements had been made. According to him, the excavator has been repaired. “It was finished last night, the rubbish that overflowed over the side has now been taken upstairs.” said Ary Candra.

The Department is currently waiting for cooperation with a third party to handle waste at the Peh TPA. This collaboration is expected to start next May. The community around Peh TPA hopes that this waste problem can be resolved immediately. (Surya Dharma/Balipost)
