The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, for the first time announced the losses of the defense forces in the war with Russia. According to him, 31 thousand Ukrainian soldiers paid with their lives for restraining Russian aggression and liberating the occupied territories.
The head of state emphasized that despite the fact that the number of dead defenders is not as Russian propagandists and the Kremlin believe, the death of so many soldiers is an extremely high price for Ukraine. Zelensky said this during a press conference in Kyiv on February 25.
“Each person is a big loss for us, a very big loss. 31 thousand military Ukrainians died in this war. Not 150 thousand that Putin and his lying entourage are lying about. But this is a big loss for us,” the president emphasized.
He also clarified the data on the number of liquidated Russians during the two years of the full-scale war: they are almost six times greater than the irreparable losses of Ukraine.
“180,000 Russians died. Up to 500 in total with wounded. 31,000 Ukrainians, and this is very painful for us,” Zelensky noted.
At the same time, he did not give figures on the number of wounded and missing defenders.
“I will not say how many are wounded, because the Russians will understand how many people have left the battlefield. There are still missing people. Tens of thousands of dead in temporarily occupied civilian territories,” the head of state summed up.
