The Russian invaders are still trying to surround and seize Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. But they do not succeed.

The enemy is also conducting offensive actions in the areas of Avdeevka and Marinka. And to the south, the Russians are forced to defend themselves. This is evidenced by new maps of combat operations published by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

On April 22, the Russian army carried out limited ground attacks in the districts of Kupyansk, Svatovoy and Kremennaya. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the Armed Forces repelled Russian attacks near Liman Pervo and Belogorovka. At the same time, Russian bloggers claimed that units of the 98th Guards Airborne Division of the Russian Federation advanced into the forest massif near Kremennaya. Russian sources also claimed that Russian forces carried out ground attacks on Terny and Nevsky, as well as near Kuzimovka and Belogorovka.

One of the Russian bloggers reported that on April 22, the Russian army was attacked in the Seversk region. The invaders also carried out ground attacks near Vasyukovka, Razdolevka, Vesely and Sporeny.

Russian sources also reported on Ukrainian counterattacks near Kremennaya. They claimed to have repelled Ukrainian attacks near Torsky and Dybrova. One of the bloggers claims that the Ukrainian army periodically counterattacks near Krasnopopovka.

On April 22, the Russians continued their offensive around Bakhmut. Geolocation footage, published on April 21, shows that Russian troops have advanced to highway O0506 north-west of Khromovo. According to Russian sources, Wagner’s fighters are storming the road in this area. But the Russians admit that as of April 22 they have not cordoned off Bakhmut. At the same time, Russian sources in social networks claim that the Ukrainian army has not been using the highway for some time, as the Russian army has blocked the road. They also wrote that Ukrainian forces rely on roads passing through Ivanovo and on numerous field roads in this area.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that the “Wagner” assault troops captured three blocks in the west of Bakhmut. Russian bloggers also write that Russian troops have advanced in southern and central Bakhmut, as well as closer to the school of the Olympic reserve in the west of the city. Although ISW does not have visual confirmation of the advance of the Russians in the city.

The Russian blogger said that Russian forces are increasing pressure on Maryinka and have recently strengthened this area.

Over the past day, the Russian army also carried out a limited ground attack in the west of the Donetsk region. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that the invaders were conducting unsuccessful offensive operations in the Ugledar district.

To the south, Ukrainian forces and possible partisans continue to shell Russian logistics hubs in the rear areas.

Analysts remind that the occupying head of Crimea Sergey Aksenov announced the shooting down of an unidentified target by Russian air defense near the Kerch Bridge. At the same time, Russian sources put forward contradictory statements about whether the weapon was a Ukrainian UAV or a missile from the Grom-2 short-range ballistic missile system. The Russian occupation authorities also accused Ukrainian partisans of bombing a railway depot in the occupied Melitopol of the Zaporozhye region.

Russian troops continued regular fire to the west of Gulyaipol and the Kherson region. Geolocation footage, published on April 21, shows that Russian troops were slightly advancing south of Mirny. And one of the Russian bloggers claimed that the Ukrainian army conducted combat reconnaissance near Dorozhnyanka.
