Zero waste and protection of birdlife

During 2023, Redeia recycled, regenerated or recovered 98.4% of its waste, which constitutes a very significant improvement in its commitment to taking zero waste to landfill.

On the other hand, 77.4% of the kilometers of Red Eléctrica lines (group company in charge of transporting and operating electrical energy in Spain) that cross critical priority areas are already marked with bird-saving devices, which contributes to protect the birdlife.

“Redeia exceeds its commitment to sustainability every year,” explains Eva Pagán: “We are committed to a business model capable of responding to the challenges of the future under criteria of excellence, innovation and integrity and to create shared value. This is reflected in our Commitment to Sustainability 2030, in our Sustainability Plan 2023-2025 and in our recent Comprehensive Impact Strategy, with which we have already begun to multiply our social and environmental contribution throughout the geography and business areas.” .

The director also highlights the importance of the latest steps taken by Redeia to improve its sustainability performance, with the issuance of the first green hybrid bond in its history – for an amount of 500 million euros; or the incorporation of the loans granted by the European Investment Bank to its green framework, thus reaching 59% sustainable financing.

Finally, he recalled the investment effort that Redeia is dedicating to environmental and social issues. In 2023, the company dedicated 24.9 million euros to the protection of biodiversity, the prevention of forest fires, landscape integration, the fight against climate change, pollution prevention, the circular economy, waste management and the optimization of resource consumption. To this we must add the more than 10.6 million that it allocated to reducing territorial, digital, gender and intergenerational inequality with initiatives such as Holapueblo, Eje Digital, Talento Solar, Hémera or RedeSTEAM.
