‘Operación Barrio Inglés’, a series of adventures for La 1’s ‘prime time’

“Espionage, adventure, intrigue and a risky love story.” With these words María Eizaguirre, director of Communication and Participation at RTVE, describes ‘Operación Barrio Inglés’, the new series that this Wednesday, at 10:50 p.m., arrives on RTVE’s La 1.
Produced by Emociona Media and Onza, responsible for titles such as ‘Parot’ or ‘El Ministerio del Tiempo’, the fiction is set in Huelva in the 1940s, in the middle of the Second World War. There, the young woman from Huelva Lucía (Aria Bedmar) has just gotten a position as a secretary at The British Mining Company after some very demanding tests. Miss Parker (Sue Flack), head of personnel, and Peter (Peter Vives), the company manager, are fascinated by her exceptional qualities. What they don’t imagine is that Lucía has lied both in the interview and to her boyfriend, Governor Francisco Martín (Rubén Cortada), whom she is looking forward to marrying. Intrigued by Peter, she will soon begin to suspect that things are happening at The Company that go beyond the administrative.
For their part, the British suffer from a shortage of diesel to transport ore from the Riotinto mines. The relentless advance of the Nazis in Europe and Churchill’s rise to power prompt Peter to embark on a dangerous mission, discovering that the Nazis are responsible for the lack of fuel. Lucía will be directly involved in the war between the two sides of spies in this Huelva that has become a sort of Spanish Casablanca, in which, on a small scale, the conflicts of the Second World War are reproduced.
“Lucía is a daughter, a worker, a partner, a sister, a caregiver, etc., and, above all, she is the viewer’s point of view and a character from whom you can learn a lot,” says actress Aria Bedmar, during the presentation of a project that already had its first screening at the Malaga Festival. Along with him, Peter Vives emphasizes Peter’s complex personality, a person, in his opinion, “dark and traumatized”, who flees from his past, “but finds himself having to lead an espionage plot” . For his part, Rubén Cortada describes Francisco Martín as a “satrap.” «He is the civil governor at that time, dealing with the English and Nazis and responding to Franco’s interest. “The man who was always in love with Lucía, and who when he sees her becomes small,” explains the actor whom we already saw in ‘Olmos y Robles’.
