The Canarian writers association gains weight

The representatives of 16 associations of writers from all over Spain and who write in their different languages ​​(Spanish or Castilian, Basque, Catalan, Galician and Asturian), will constitute, in the Espacio Santa Clara de Soriathe Conference of Writers Associations.

The choice of the city to constitute the Conference is a tribute to the poet by the entities that will make up the Conference. Antonio Machado on the 85th Anniversary of his exile and his death for the significance that the city has had in his work and in the universal dissemination of a poetry deeply committed to personal and collective dignity and human rights.

Since 2016, these entities have been celebrating, on an annual basis, at the initiative of the Collegiate Association of Writers and with the sponsorship of CEDRO, a State Meeting (in Madrid and Alcalá de Henares) to assess the major issues and demands that affect, from a professional point of view and compliance with the Intellectual Property Law, writers, translators and playwrights throughout the country. The Conference, thus, will become a stable platform for coordination of the aforementioned entities before the different Administrations.

In Soria the almost 9,000 writers, translators and playwrights that are part of them.

This Friday, the representatives of the Associations, after being received by the City Council, will debate and, where appropriate, approve the founding act of the Conference and the Platform of demands to public Administrations, as well as a Declaration against censorship and for freedom of expression and literary and artistic creation.

All the founding associations of the Conference have actively participated in the initiatives that in recent years the world of culture, especially written culture, has put on the table, starting with the Continue Creating Platformborn in 2015 to defend the interests of creators in the face of the sanctions that the then government imposed on retired writers and translators, some of them very well-known, for continuing to create and receive copyright after retirement.

The modification of the norm that transposes into our legislation the European directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market and the ‘adequate’ remuneration to authors and journalists for the use of their content on the Internet, as well as the updating, bringing it closer to the most advanced countries of the European Union, of the fees for library loans, in such a way that they benefit from it the author collective.
