The driver, who drove into a crowd in Szczecin, Poland, was charged

Polish prosecutors have charged a 33-year-old driver with four counts of speeding into a group of pedestrians in Szczecin yesterday, before causing a collision with three other cars.

RMF24 reports about this, as “Europeyska Pravda” writes.

The driver gave an explanation in connection with the incident and admitted his guilt. Now his testimony will be checked by investigators.

The man heard four accusations. He will be responsible for causing a disaster on land transport, attempted murder of several persons, fleeing the scene and causing bodily harm.

20 people injured in the accident are still in Szczecin hospitals. West Pomeranian Voivode Adam Rudavsky said that their age ranges from 5 to 62 years. Among them are six children and six Ukrainians.

Doctors assess the condition of the two victims as very serious. They are under the constant supervision of anesthesiologists and neurosurgeons.

The court, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, decided on a three-month arrest for the man. The suspect faces even life imprisonment.

Incident happened on friday just after 15:00 at Rodla Square, one of the largest and busiest intersections in Szczecin in the afternoon.

The culprit of the accident – a 33-year-old Pole – was detained by witnesses and handed over to the police. The man had no previous criminal convictions and had a driver’s license.

The man was taken to the police pre-trial detention center. He was tested for alcohol and drugs. Initial tests did not show the presence of intoxicating substances. Blood was taken from the driver for a more thorough examination.

Preliminary procedural actions under the supervision of the prosecutor showed that he is a person who has been undergoing psychiatric treatment for four years.
