The Playa del Inglés shopping center plans to generate more than 520 jobs

Of the 520 jobs, 30 would be direct, with 4 employees for Management, 10 on shifts for security functions, 12 on shifts for cleaning tasks and 4 for maintenance. These would be the jobs that the shopping center ownership would directly control. But they also do an estimate of indirect jobs, which number 480. Of them, 110 would work in the hypermarket and 380 in the different companies that operate throughout the complex.

Commercial entities Tefia SL, Isla del Paraíso 2000 SL and Supermercados Marcial SL have requested the General Directorate of Commerce and Consumer Affairs of the Canary Islands Government, dependent on the Ministry of Economy, to extend the commercial license that had been granted to them in 2019 to build a commercial complex in the plot of 9,885 square meters located between GC-500, Avenida de Gáldar, an alley that separates it from the Nilo shopping center and Alcalde Enrique Jorge street.

5 years ago they were granted permission for a useful exhibition and sales area to the public of 14,442 square meters, but what they are now processing is for an expanded area of 23,013 square meters. After an economic study, the property determined that the project would not be viable if all the square meters allowed on that land by the municipal ordinance were not obtained, hence they chose to modify the planned project and move from an open and terraced building, which did not take advantage of all the buildable space, to another closed around a large space or central plaza, 1,385 square meters, that I would take advantage of it.

After several proposals to try to adjust to the determinations of the City Council, the project now presented by the Chesa y Mena Arquitectos office, which will have a commercial area of ​​23,013 square meters, includes a free-standing building of 56,755 square meters, which will have two floors on the façade facing GC-500 and 1 to 3 floors on the one on Alcalde Enrique Jorge Street. This is explained by the unevenness of the site on the façade that faces the center of San Fernando.

Two panoramic elevators

The two main novelties with respect to the previous project have to do with the loss of a floor towards Alcalde Enrique Jorge Street, where 4 had been planned in its highest part, and the enabling of a deceleration lane along that same back street at the entrance to the parking lot. The central patio will have kiosks, flower beds with vegetation and a central pond with water.

The complex, with two panoramic elevators and four cores of escalators and escalators, will also have 4 floors below ground, in the first of which a hypermarket of 6,237 square meters, while the other 3 will be used for parking, with capacity for 864 seats, 27 of them for vehicles of people with reduced mobility. The estimated investment will exceed 30 million euros and the term for its implementation, 36 months.

If the promoters obtain the requested commercial license, the next step would be to request a construction license from the City Council. Its final appearance would resemble that of the Biosfera Plaza, in Puerto del Carmen (Lanzarote).
