There are only 45 days left until one of the city’s main events, Festival of International Tourist Interest, raises its curtain and gives way to a celebration that will be extended until February 18.

Their move to the Port requires certain work by the city government that is not yet planned in the area, according to port sources, because the City Council has not yet sent them a report from the Security Board that enables them to deliver the plot. and let them get to work.

And in recent days the excavators of the contractor in charge of the work have been preparing the area to enable the spaces in which the carnival will experience its exile from the Santa Catalina park in the coming months, an imposition derived from the delays in the work of the MetroGuagua.

«The only thing missing is that report from the Security Board to be able to deliver the plot to them. From the moment that report arrives, the next day, or at most in two days, it will be in your hands to undertake the necessary works,” they indicate from the Port.

It involves preparing a 14,800 square meter plot of land that aspires to reach a total capacity of 9,000 spectators on its peak day, that of the drag gala. This will obviously require a series of works to adapt the plot to the logistical needs it requires.

Among them are the accesses to what will be, in principle only during 2024, the epicenter of the massive celebration. One of the black points is to prepare alternative accesses to the natural entrance of the Port, where it is located the customs posts of the Civil Guard. The straight line where Juan Domínguez Pérez Street begins, the main entrance to El Sebadal, will be the place where the doors leading to the esplanade where the main events will be held will be anchored, through several entrances. carnival galas.

This is one of the issues that requires, beyond the regulations that impose it, a well-armed security development for the transfer of the plot for a period of one year. Access to the Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a particularly delicate area of ​​the city, both on the entry and exit routes. The security measures and traffic problems that usually occur in that area mean that it requires special attention.

From the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, no more information is given than the response that this first phase of work is the responsibility of the Port and that the municipal landing in the tasks of adaptation of the space will arrive shortly.
