The spokesperson for the Popular Party (PP) in the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Jimena Delgado, has announced that his political group will redouble the supervision of the Promotion Society, after presenting this Wednesday a “disastrous” balance in which losses skyrocket to 3.2 million euros and the debt with suppliers by more than two million euros, up to 7.1 million.

«The numbers reflect what we have been denouncing for some time, which is nothing other than a absolute lack of control in the Company’s spending at the hands of the Socialist Party, an entity that we must not forget is financed exclusively with current transfers from the municipal Budget. There is no way for the expenditure budget to be met for even one year,” laments the PP spokesperson.

«It must be taken into account that the transfers from the City Council to this Society were 15,601,511.38 euros in 2022 and 16,631,295.14 euros in 2023, that is, we have allocated 1,612,098.92 euros of everyone’s money to cover the losses of 2022,” he explains. Likewise, the average payment period to suppliers does not comply with the legal limit of 60 days.

Debt to suppliers

“We are even more concerned about the increase in debt to suppliers, since there are 7,107,892.80 euros left to pay in 2023 and 4,879,735.25 euros corresponding to 2022,” continues the PP leader in the Gran Canaria capital.

«We must put a face to these creditors, because they are producers, lighting, catering, assembly or security companies. It is unacceptable how a municipal society is being managed, which is also characterized by opacity in their hiringall with the consent of Carolina Darias,” he adds.

«The Promotion Society has been involved in recent years in various controversies related, above all, to the lack of transparency and the non-payment problems to the suppliers, which is why the Popular municipal group has had to go on numerous occasions to both the Transparency Commissioner and the courts to have all invoices related to the organization of past editions of the Promotion Society published on the website of the Promotion Society. Carnival, including the one in 2022, with a cost of 4.2 million euros, and the one in 2024, which was -in principle- at 6.5 million euros,” he adds.

More than half a million euros

«As if that were not enough, there is an open inspection of the Canarian Tax Agency related to the IGIC for a total amount of 590,750.30 euros that is paid and appealed before the Administrative Economic Board of the Canary Islands,” it continues. “In the next few days we will hold an appearance precisely related to the expenses of the Carnival and the way in which practically all the services have been contracted, which has been through negotiations without advertising, the preferred procedure of the PSOE,” he concludes.

CANARIAS7 announced this Thursday that the board of directors of the Promotion Society approved the 2023 accounts, commissioned an external audit of the last five years and took two months off from their position with remuneration to the manager. Agustin Diaz until the results are available.
