The PP files the mayor who denigrated Irene Montero for being a partner of Pablo Iglesias

The Minister for Equality regrets that “it is common for there to be charges from the Popular Party creating hate and the most disgusting political violence”

The PP, as Alberto Núñez Feijóo himself already took for granted on Thursday, opens a file on the mayor of Villar de Cañas (Cuenca), after he insulted Minister Irene Montero on account of being a sentimental partner of Pablo Iglesias. Both, colleagues in Podemos since the formation of the party in 2014, share three children. “He has a mouth full of sores from sucking his pigtails,” said José María Saiz, councilor of this Manchego town of less than 500 inhabitants.

This macho comment was immediately condemned by Feijóo, “I neither share the words nor do I share the attitude, nor do they seem adequate or appropriate to me, nor do they represent the feeling of the PP,” said the leader of the conservative formation. “I will not accept – he added – any attack on the dignity of a woman under the acronym of the PP”. The popular campaign spokesman for the municipal and regional elections next May, Borja Sémper, later advocated the immediate resignation of the mayor.

The Minister of Equality thanked the reaction of Feijóo and the leadership of the formation, although she made ugly that “it is already common for there to be charges from the Popular Party creating hatred and the most disgusting political violence.”

Now the PP begins an internal trial to assess sanctions against Sáiz or, most likely, his continuity in the party. With just over three months to go before the municipal elections, one option could be to remove him from the lists that he has led since 1995.

A controversial mayor

The mayor has apologized to Minister Irene Montero on social networks. “She should have criticized her political management without diminishing her dignity,” she said. Even so, it is still a new entry to his list of controversies.

Saiz defended tooth and nail the installation in Villar de Cañas of the nuclear radioactive waste warehouse that the PP government once proposed. The project was discarded by the government of Pedro Sánchez in November 2022. According to the mayor, the left frustrated the future of his people around the conservation of those discarded remains of nuclear power plants.
