The PSC retains the presidency of the Barcelona Provincial Council and leaves out the independentistas

The PSC will continue to preside over the Barcelona Provincial Council. The Socialists, En Comú Podem and the local formation Tot per Terrassa have closed an agreement this Wednesday that guarantees the investiture of Lluïsa Moret (PSC) as provincial president. Moret, mayoress of Sant Boi de Llobregat, will take over tomorrow from Nuria Marín, also a socialist, mayoress of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, as president of the Barcelona Provincial Council. The Socialists, as the first provincial force, retain power in the supranational institution and block the way for the independentistas, who had options to win the presidency, but Junts and ERC have not been able to reach alternative agreements to dislodge the PSC.

Until now, the Barcelona Provincial Council is governed by the PSC thanks to an agreement with Junts. Those of Puigdemont, on the other hand, refused to reissue the pact and announced that they would try an alternative alliance, which has not materialized. The PSC and the commons add up to 22 provincial deputies. One more is enough to ensure the investiture. They have found it in Tot per Terrassa, formation of the mayor of the Vallesan town Jordi Ballart. If he had opted for the agreement with ERC and Junts, the provincial president would be pro-independence. PSC and the commons still had the option of adding the 4 deputies of the PP, as already happened at the investiture of Jaume Collboni as mayor of Barcelona. Collboni left Xavier Trias with honey on his lips, after winning the elections and losing the mayoralty of the Catalan capital at the last minute. They still had one last chance. And it is that, it is speculated that Junts could have two deputies in favor of breaking the party’s voting discipline and voting in favor of the Socialists.
