The situation at the front: the Russian Federation is attracting reserves to activate the offensive in the east of Ukraine

The Russian invaders are bringing tactical and operational reserves to the battles in the east of Ukraine.
In this way, the occupiers are trying to increase the pace of offensive operations. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts refer to the data of the Ukrainian military observer Konstantin Mashovts. According to him, the Russian military command is attracting tactical and operational reserves for offensive operations in the Lyman direction, in the Bakhmut area. And also in the west and south-west of the Donetsk region. The invaders are trying to prevent Ukrainian forces from stabilizing the front line in these areas.
Mashovets said that many of these reserves are intended for the alleged Russian breakthrough of the Ukrainian defense, and not necessarily for the support of the current upcoming Russian operations aimed at stabilizing the defense positions of Ukraine.

According to the analyst, the Russian army recently attracted additional units of the 3rd Army Corps to combat operations southwest of Bakhmut. And also the unestablished reserve regiment of the 20th Motorized Rifle Division (8th Combined Arms Army, Southern Military District) and the 10th Tank Regiment (1st Army Corps of the DNR) for combat operations southwest of Donetsk, part of the 272nd Motorized Rifle Regiment. (47th Tank Division, 1st Guards Tank Army) in the Lyman direction.
Mashovets also noted that Russian troops still have adequate reserves for further intensification of offensive operations. However, these reserves will not be enough to destroy the Ukrainian defense.
“Since the middle of 2022, the Russian troops have tried to achieve more than gradual minor tactical successes in Ukraine. The introduction of tactical or even limited operational reserves does not in itself change the Russian prospects for operationally significant successes, since the Russian troops have not yet demonstrated the ability to carry out elaborate mechanized maneuvers that allowed that they would quickly seize significant areas of the territory,” the message says.
The situation at the front for the Defense Forces of Ukraine will remain difficult in the coming weeks. The Russians are continuing their attacks on several areas of the front line at once, the British Ministry of Defense reported on March 14.
According to British intelligence, the Russian Federation is concentrating its operations west of Avdeevka and Maryinka in the Donetsk region. These directions account for 60% of registered Russian attacks over the past four weeks.
