The US plans to resume top-secret programs in Ukraine – The Washington Post

The Pentagon is preparing to resume top-secret programs in Ukraine, which the US suspended before the start of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.

If the Ministry of Defense of the United States of America receives approval, then the American special operations forces will be able to use Ukrainian operatives to counteract disinformation and monitor the Russian troops, writes The Washington Post with reference to current and former officials in the United States.

“The US Department of Defense is preparing an appropriate proposal to restore the Pentagon’s programs. The new funding bill will be considered in the coming months. If lawmakers approve the allocation of funds, the programs will start operating again in 2024. At the same time, Congress officials are not sure that the Pentagon will receive the desired result. Individual Republicans can oppose against the background of significant financial support of Ukraine,” the message says.

Others call the sum of $15 million per hour spent on top-secret programs around the world a pittance compared to the benefits from them.

“The programs that were deployed in Ukraine are considered a so-called form of irregular warfare. They are used against China and Russia, with which the USA competes, but are not in a state of open conflict,” the publication notes.

Critics of the program’s renewal argue that it could involve the United States in direct participation in the war against Russia. However, the country’s Ministry of Defense refuted such a theory. According to representatives of the Pentagon, operatives and their supervisors will perform exclusively non-violent tasks.

Opponents of the Ministry of Defense argue that the Russian Federation may perceive the resumption of programs as a provocation and expand the scope of the war.

US-funded operatives pursued two goals. The first consisted in opposing the Kremlin’s propaganda and publishing truthful materials, and the second – in the collection of intelligence data.
