The leader of the Democratic majority in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, said that he will consider the proposal of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, regarding assistance to Ukraine and other American allies through separate bills.
As “European Truth” reports, Schumer’s words are quoted by the Reuters agency.
The Senate Democratic leader said he would not pass judgment on Mike Johnson’s bills “until we see more about the substance of the proposal and the process by which it will be considered.”
“Hopefully we’ll have the details of the speaker’s proposal by the end of the day. Again, time is of the essence,” Schumer added.
As you know, the approval by the US Congress of more than $60 billion in aid for Ukraine is currently being blocked by Republicans in the House of Representatives.
The day before, House Speaker Mike Johnson unveiled his plan to approve foreign aid, which provides for separate votes for assistance to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and national security priorities.
Even before that, this proposal, which had previously been coolly received by the White House, criticized President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. In his opinion, the separation of the aid package between Ukraine and Israel in the US Congress will demonstrate indifference to the deaths of Ukrainians and will be a manifestation of “pure politics”.
The President also said that if the US Congress does not vote to provide support to Ukraine in the amount of 60 billion dollars, then she will have no chance of winning.
