TPO – Dak Lak is experiencing a local shortage of water for both domestic use and water sources for crops. If it still doesn’t rain next time, the crops will dry out because of the drought.
Mr. Le Van Hoang Lam, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ia Rve commune (Ea Sup district, Dak Lak) said that in the area there is a local lack of domestic water in villages 1, 2, 4, and 12, 13. Currently, the locality The locality is asking the 737 Defense Economic Group (Military Region 5) and Ea Sup District Police to provide water to people.

According to Mr. Lam, if there is no rain in the coming time, people’s cassava and fruit tree areas will dry out and even die.
Because the water source for irrigation of people in the commune depends on drilled wells. However, currently, underground water has decreased deeply, not enough to supply irrigation needs. In addition, in the commune there are more than 130 hectares of rice in villages 12 and 13 depending on the water source of Ea Sup Thuong lake. Because this water source serves all 10 communes and towns, while Ia Rve commune is last, the water source reception is also limited.
In Bong Krang commune (Lak district, Dak Lak), prolonged hot weather causes river, stream and groundwater levels in the area to remain low. Many small streams in the commune are dry, clean water streams also have low water levels. 11 irrigation works in this locality are also facing the risk of exhaustion due to drought. This entire commune has 63 hectares of wet rice dry due to the effects of drought.

To cope with drought, Lak District People’s Committee directed localities to strictly implement drought prevention plans, set up field pumping stations, prepare pumps, equipment and fuel ready to pump against drought when necessary. Develop a specific water schedule, strict and flexible water distribution; Organize rotational irrigation, save money…
The entire Dak Lak province has 858 irrigation works, including 619 reservoirs, 161 dams, and 78 pumping stations. According to data from the Irrigation Department, there are 445/619 reservoirs, up to now 44 lakes have dried up; 139 lakes have current capacity below 50%; 135 lakes have current capacity from 50% to less than 70%; 127 lakes have current capacity of over 70%.
Authorities surveyed the drought situation in the area |
According to reports from 9/15 districts, towns and cities, currently in the province there are more than 2,000 hectares of crops potentially suffering from drought, of which 638.7 hectares are rice, 1,317.5 hectares are coffee. -ta, the rest are other crops. Other localities are actively implementing solutions to overcome the drought situation.
Coffee is also damaged due to drought |
It is forecasted that in the near future, if there is no rain and the weather continues to be hot like today, the water level in reservoirs, rivers and streams will continue to decrease sharply.
In particular, the reservoirs are small, the amount of water coming in is almost zero and the construction has been invested for a long time, so the lake bed is silted up, so the possibility of irrigation area of these projects being limited at the end of the season is very high. Large, these projects are concentrated in districts: Krong Buk, Ea H’leo, Krong Nang, Lak, Buon Don, Krong Pac, Buon Ho town…
