Ukrainians call on the government to ban phone calls to prisoners of the Russian Federation: the petition has gathered votes

A petition with a call to suspend the granting of the right to telephone communication to Russian prisoners of war received the required number of votes. Now it should be considered by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Details: the author of the petition, Inna Turova, claims that the relatives of Ukrainian defenders, who are currently in various prisons of the Russian Federation, do not have any information about their state of health or whereabouts.

“Despite many months of requests and demands, we cannot hear the voice of our defenders to make sure that they are really alive. Only a few of us had this happiness. We write letters to our husbands, sons and brothers, but we do not even know if they reach they are to them. The ICRC is silent about this no less firmly than the Russians do.”

At the same time, the author of the petition notes that the Russians, who were captured, wrote and called their relatives a long time ago.

Literally: “Our enemies, who were captured, wrote and called their relatives a long time ago. And the relatives of our enemies live peacefully, knowing about the assured fate of those who came to kill us. They know that Ukraine has established the right of Russian prisoners of war to telephone conversations with a government document. although this is not at all provided for by the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War of 1949, which guarantees only correspondence.”

Details: According to the signatories, the treatment of captured enemies “must have reasonable limits.” Therefore, they call for the suspension of the granting of the right to telephone communication to Russian prisoners of war until Russia provides such an opportunity for Ukrainian defenders.

“The further possibility of captured enemies to contact their relatives should depend on the policy of the Russian Federation, which is conducted in relation to our defenders.”

Since March 22, the petition has received more than 25,000 votes. Now the Cabinet of Ministers must consider it and provide an answer.
