Beauties on the Run by Ethan Cohen will be shown in Kyiv at the SUNNY BUNNY film festival

The new film by director Ethan Cohen “Drive-Away Dolls” will be the closing film of the current Kyiv LGBTQIA+ film festival SUNNY BUNNY.

In the center of the plot of the first solo film of the youngest of the Coen brothers (“The Big Lebowski”, “Fargo”, “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”, “Bridge of Spies”, “No Place for Old Men”) – two girlfriends. Jamie regrets breaking up with his girlfriend, and Marian just needs to relax. In an attempt to start with a clean slate, they embark on a trip full of surprises to Tallahassee. However, things go awry when their paths cross with a gang of unlucky criminals. Ethan wrote the script together with his wife Trisha Cook, and the film project itself was conceived in the early 2000s.

The film starred such stars as Margaret Kwolly (“Poor Misfortunes”, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, “The Maid”), Pedro Pascal (“Game of Thrones”, “Drugs”, “The Mandalorian”, “The Last of Us”) Matt Damon (“Clever Will Hunting”, “Ocean’s Eleven”, “The Talented Mr. Ripley”), Geraldine Viswanathan (“Impeccable”, “The Miracle Worker”), Benny Feldstein (“Lady Bird”, “Impeachment: An American Crime Story”) and others

The world premiere of the film took place in February 2024, and it received mixed reviews – critics rated it average, but the audience did not like it at all.

At the moment, the film’s rating on IMDb is 5.6 out of 10, while on Rotten Tomatoes it received 63% approval from critics and only 36% from viewers. At the same time, on Metacritic, film experts rated it 56 out of 100 points, and the general audience – 4.6 out of 10 points, which in both cases corresponds to the characteristic “mixed or average reviews”.

It is still unknown when and whether the film will be released in a wide Ukrainian distribution. At first, it was planned to be released in Ukraine in September 2023, however, since its global release was postponed for six months due to a large-scale strike of Hollywood actors and screenwriters, these plans fell through.

As reported by UNIAN, from April 19 to 26, 2024, the LGBTQIA+ film festival SUNNY BUNNY will be held in the capital’s “Zhovten” cinema. The opening film of the event will be Julio Torres’s film “The Troublemaker”, one of the roles of which was played by Tilda Swinton.

At the same time, one of the loudest events of the festival will be the Ukrainian festival premiere of the film “We Are All Strangers”, which became one of the biggest hits of last year. The director of the drama is Andrew Haig, and the main roles were performed by such stars as Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell.
