Among the main demands of the staff is the need to update the facilities in which they provide the service on the beaches of San Agustín, Las Burras, El Cochino, El Inglés, Maspalomas and Meloneras. “There is wooden turrets, like the one at Las Burras, which is falling down and that Occupational Risk Prevention has already disabled it for us, but then there are rusty accesses like the one at the San Agustín post that are a danger. Álamo assures that the new government is working at full speed to update a service that, as he recalled, has been with a precarious contract since 2018. He informs that the specifications have been drawn up and that, in the absence of correcting some Contracting issues, it will be put out to tender shortly.
Among the improvements that it will imply, he points out that, from the outset, it contemplates doubling the annual budget, from 600,000 euros to almost 1.3 million, and a “significant” increase in the salary table, above the agreement, of 30%. The subrogation of staff was also planned, which the mayor quantifies at 36 people, but he says that it is now under discussion. Regarding the turrets and other facilities, it makes it clear that their maintenance is the responsibility of the Red Cross, “according to the contract.”
