The Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lysovoy, said that now the Tavri University will not be joined to the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. But this decision was postponed for an hour, during which the institution of higher education will be able to form a strategy that will show it as truly Crimean.
In an interview with mass media, the official noted that Tavriyskyi University currently has no options that help train specialists for Crimea, de-occupation, or contribute to the development of Crimean Tatar topics. So next year, the MES will return to the question and determine whether this university has remained one of the weak ones in Kyiv.
“We gave the opportunity to work and form a strategy that would really show them as a Crimean university. We do not have a set of necessary options that would allow us to say that this is definitely a Crimean university that trains specialists for Crimea, de-occupation, where Crimean studios are fully functioning , the Crimean Tatar theme is developing”, – said Lysovoy.
“After an hour, we will return to the question and see – Tavriyskyi really is the Crimean university or just one of the small, weak universities in Kyiv, which closes the rankings”, – added the head of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
He explained that in the event of a merger, the students of Tavriyskyi University would win, because they would receive diplomas from Mohylyanka. But this would happen only if they really came to study, and did not just go to school and get a diploma. The academy charges for this, which can be the cause of student protests, assures Lysovoy.
At the same time, the head of the educational department appealed to the students to think before going to protest actions. According to him, the reasons for indignation and assessment of the situation should be formed in the applicants for education, and not manipulative attraction to the protection of other people’s ambitions.
The head of the Ministry of Education and Culture also said that he plans to attend the protests and communicate with students about their demands and warned rectors not to influence the decision of the youth.
“For me, communication with students is very important. I will come to such protests and talk to them, ask them what exactly upset them. And I warn rectors against manipulatively attracting students – this is very wrong”, – emphasized Lysovoy.
He added that in certain situations, the heads of educational institutions voice only their ambitions, but do not have any arguments. The Ministry of Education and Culture is now following the path of dialogue, seeking solutions to problems, but there are other scenarios for the development of events.
In particular, if nothing is done, all educational institutions will go bankrupt. However, according to the Minister of Education, it is possible to issue ultimatums without paying attention to the opinion of the educational community. If the agreements are not reached, Lysovoi assured that the last scenario, which is the least comfortable but the most effective, will be applied.
