Elena Zarate He recalled that the Canary Islands will hold the first Conference of Presidents in the coming days, promoted by President Fernando Clavijo, and that it will bring together those responsible for the seven island councils in the Canary Islands Parliament, to agree on a common position regarding the demographic challenge.
The deputy minister responsible for this matter explained that, in addition to the work of the parliamentary commission, which will be resumed shortly, the regional Executive is promoting «a working group with the 46 municipalities with less than 10,000 inhabitants that require differentiated treatment, since they all share special conditions, such as their eminently rural character, and very different from those that are located in coastal areas.
Precisely this imbalance, Elena Zárate has pointed out, «It is an element that adds complexity when facing the demographic challenge on the islands, which are a fragmented, limited territory with a high percentage of environmental protection, a special orography and a mass population in some areas compared to the depopulation of others, often in the same island and region.

The Government, Zárate has indicated, “will take into account the conclusions of the work in the different areas to address the updating of the Land Law, since territorial planning must be the starting point of strategic and transversal policies on the subject.” of demographics.
