The White House is ready to consider funding bills, in particular for Ukraine

The administration of US President Joe Biden has expressed readiness to consider separate bills on funding for allies, including Ukraine, prepared by Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson.

Details: Kirby reminded that the Biden administration does not support a separate bill on aid only to Israel, because Ukraine also needs ammunition.

“It’s important that the House makes progress this week so that we can help Israel, Ukraine, and the Asia-Pacific region. As for the details, we’ll wait and see what the Speaker proposes. It’s important that our allies – Ukraine and Israel – get as soon as possible necessary security assistance,” he added.

A White House official said the administration’s position on Johnson’s initiative needs to be scrutinized, but on the face of it, it could indeed help provide needed aid to Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific region now, at a critical time.

As you know, the approval by the US Congress of more than $60 billion in aid for Ukraine is currently being blocked by Republicans in the House of Representatives.

Earlier in the day, House Speaker Mike Johnson unveiled his foreign aid approval plan, which calls for separate votes on aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and national security priorities.

The Senate – which voted for a joint aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan back in February – said it was ready to consider the details of Johnson’s proposal as they emerged.
