The local court of Karachi has said that the time has come for strict action against the network of street criminals in Karachi.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Gharbi has said in his written judgment that the time has come to take strict action against the street criminals in Karachi and the networks that buy stolen mobile phones.
In the judgment, the court said that only 19 street criminals could be punished in the last 3 months, which is not enough in terms of the crime rate.
The court rejected the bail application of Imran, the accused involved in street crime, and Obaid, the business accused of the stolen mobile phone.
The court said that on the one hand, street criminals take lives of innocent citizens on the slightest resistance, on the other hand, criminals who buy stolen mobile phones are saving the elements.
The court judgment added that the time has come to take strict action against street criminals and the network of shopkeepers who buy stolen mobile phones.
In the first 3 months of this year, the five district court of Karachi pronounced 332 cases, out of which only 19 accused have been convicted.
In the last 3 months, the proportion of sentences awarded by the courts has been around 6%.
Assistant Deputy Public Prosecutor Rana Muhammad Ali says that most of the street criminals who are caught are habitual criminals who take advantage of weak investigations and get acquitted.
According to the official data, South District sentenced 8 accused in the last 3 months while 26 accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The courts of Eastern district also sentenced 8 accused and acquitted 122 accused, while the courts of Western district sentenced 2 accused and acquitted 27 accused.
In the same way, the courts of the central district gave judgment in 23 cases in which all the accused were convicted, the courts of Malir district sentenced one accused in three months and acquitted 115 accused.
